PH CONSULATE GENERAL IN FRANKFURT AND RUHR UNIVERSITY IN BOCHUM SIGN PH STUDIES PROGRAM AGREEMENT ANEW
In a move towards the continuation of their productive collaboration through the Philippine Studies Program, Consul General Marie Yvette L. Banzon Abalos and Prof. Dr. Roger Friedlein of Ruhr University in Bochum (RUB) have today signed the Third Extension of the Donation Agreement on 6 November at the Consulate.
The Donation Agreement, which was first signed in October 2019 under the sponsorship of the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, is aimed at fostering mutual understanding and academic/cultural exchange and enhancing people-to-people relations between the Philippines and Germany.
As part of this initiative, the Consulate donated several books to the RUB’s library, enriching its resources with valuable Philippine literature and academic works. Moreover, a series of engaging activities, ranging from Philippine historical/cultural workshops to academic exchange/seminars and book publications, are meticulously being planned by RUB to lead up to the Philippines’ Guest of Honor status at the Frankfurt Buchmesse 2025. TOP GERMAN AND SLOVENIAN LEADERS OPEN WORLD’S LARGEST BOOK FAIR IN FRANKFURT WITH HIGH-LEVEL PH DELEGATION IN ATTENDANCE
Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar and German Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth, led the official opening ceremony of the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair at Messe Frankfurt’s Congress Center and the Slovenia Guest of Honour Pavillion. Under the Fair’s theme “And the story goes on,” and Slovenia Guest of Honor motto “Honeycomb of Words,” the world’s largest book fair hopes to put the focus back on FBM’s 75th anniversary as it emphasizes the power of books and the Fair as a platform for “honoring democratic discourse and promoting peaceful exchange in unpeaceful times.” Meanwhile, in her remarks, the Slovenian President emphasized the role of reading in the development of critical thinking.
During the ceremonies, Ambassador Susan Natividad and Consul General Marie Yvette L. Banzon Abalos led the high-level Philippine delegation composed of officials from the National Book Development Board led by Chairman Dante Ang, Department of Education, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Office Senator Legarda and representatives from the Philippine publishing industry. PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL PARTICIPATES IN NEWCOMERS FESTIVAL HOSTED BY THE CITY OF FRANKFURT
Held annually since 2001, the Newcomers Festival hosted by the City of Frankfurt is an informative fair designed for newly-arrived expats and migrants to help them overcome the transitional phase and cultural differences, as well as help them adjust to their new home. Consulate representatives led by Deputy Consul General Rogelio Villanueva, Jr. welcomed Filipinos who recently arrived in Germany for work and family reunification.
As a family-oriented exhibition fair of essential services and organizations for newly-arrived residents of Frankfurt, the Newcomers Festival, held in the Rathaus, hosts every year around 60 exhibitors from different industries such as relocation companies, international schools, health insurances, banking and finance, driving and language schools, non-profit organizations, clubs, museums, theaters, tourism and many more. A Diplomatic Corner has been provided for Consulates and Foreign Missions to enable them to meet and assist their constituents.
